Mweene’s Golden Run Brings Pride to Zambia
Zambian mixed martial arts fighter Mutinta Mweene, popularly known as “Tinta the Crippler,” has given the country another reason to celebrate after completing a remarkable international double in 2026.
Mweene won gold at the IMMAF Africa Championships in April before following up with another gold medal at the Angola Dipanda Open World Cup in September, marking a historic achievement for Zambian MMA.
Her back-to-back triumphs have placed her among Zambia’s notable emerging combat sports athletes, while also showcasing the country’s growing presence on the international mixed martial arts stage.
The April victory at the IMMAF Africa Championships was already a significant milestone, as Mweene helped Zambia make history at the continental competition. However, rather than resting on that success, she returned to international competition in September and once again stood at the top of the podium in Angola.
The achievement is particularly significant because Mweene has become the first Zambian fighter to secure back-to-back IMMAF gold medals and win an IMMAF World Cup, giving her 2026 campaign a place in the country’s MMA history.
Beyond the medals, Mweene’s performances have brought greater attention to the potential of Zambian fighters competing in a sport that demands discipline, physical preparation, technical ability and mental resilience.
Her success also provides a powerful example for young athletes who aspire to compete beyond Zambia, demonstrating that local talent can make an impact on the international stage when given the opportunity to develop and compete.
For Zambia, Mweene’s two victories represent more than individual success. They are a source of national pride and another indication that Zambian athletes are capable of competing for honours at major international events.
From the African Championships in April to the World Cup in September, “Tinta the Crippler” has turned 2026 into a landmark year for herself and Zambian MMA.
Her golden run has not only added two major international titles to her record but has also raised the Zambian flag on the global MMA stage.
